The Franklin School wellness program has been funded again!

Santa Barbara, CA, June 11, 2018: The Eastside Diabetes Initiative is a program dedicated to providing comprehensive awareness about the risks of childhood obesity, type two diabetes, and kidney disease through education and interactive activities for the parents and children of Franklin Elementary School. The initiative brings together dedicated pre-medical students from Santa Barbara City College, teachers, families, and local health care professionals. By spreading awareness about health and helping families implement the teachings into daily life the initiative hopes to severely lower the prevalence of type 2 diabetes as well as child hood obesity.

The Eastside Diabetes Initiative recently received a grant from The Fund for Santa Barbara for $9,000 for the program’s first year.

The program is led by Dr. Michael Fisher’s vision and guidance, pre-medical student Diego Figueroa, and the director of the Franklin Service Center at Franklin Elementary School, Alejandra Gutierrez.
