Dr. Fisher’s chapter titled My Odyssey of Stress and How I Ended It describe his observations on how stress impacted him.  Dr. Harris’ Ted Talk has over a million views and provides research that supports this concept.

CDC research correlates stressful events with lifelong medical problems.  Dr. Harris provides information on how the developing brain can be affected by early stress such that the body’s ability to battle disease later in life.   This research identifies Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and correlates the number of ACEs with subsequent health.  1 in 8 adults had more than four ACEs or traumatic events which correlate to more than double the risk of COPD among other diseases.

Kidneys have many direct and indirect effects on our immune systems.  One of the areas Dr. Fisher and others are exploring are the effects stress plays on kidney disease prevention and the ability to manage kidney health.
